Christine Allen April 21st – May 19th

This month we welcome back Christine Allen with her new exhibition – Lost in a Summer Peace.  Christine says: The paintings for this exhibition have evolved mainly as a result of a dog, and consequently lots of walking in the landscape, regardless of the prevailing elements.

Easter Menus

Our Chef has been inspired by Easter and has devised some Easter Specials for the Menu du Jour. Check out our Sample Menus for Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday with fresh starters like Pear and prosciuttio salad,  Easter classics like Lamb rump with a  special honey glaze and delicious desserts.  ‘Hot Cross Bun’ bread and butter pudding is already a favourite around here.

Jon Tremaine exhibition from 24th March

We are very proud of the fantastic artists whose work graces the walls of the restaurant and the hotel.  The displays change every 4 weeks, and this week, work from one of our old friends, Jon Tremaine, will be back on the walls, with prints available to buy from us too.  You can see his unique and fascinating wildlife pictures here: www.jontremaine.com

Mothering Sunday March 18th

Mother’s day is very front of mind here at The Bay. Two of our long-standing staff are on maternity leave at the moment. Debbie -normally the welcoming face at reception in Hotel Penzance, and Roxie, one of our very popular waiting staff in the restaurant. We wish them lots of happiness with their new little bundles of joy and look forward to seeing them soon.

If you would like to mark Mother’s Day this year it’s not too late to bring your mum to The Bay to lunch.  I’m afraid we’re fully booked at 1pm – but why not make an afternoon of it. Take a walk along the promenade then come and have a long leisurely lunch a little bit later.

Our Afternoon Tea party

On Thursday Feb 2nd we hosted an Afternoon Tea Party at The Bay. We love a proper afternoon tea – little sandwiches, elegant cakes, buttery scones served on a tiered cake stand with tea or a glass of something sparkling, and we want people in West cornwall to know that if they ever have soemthing to celebrate – a birthday, a wedding, a baby, Friday – then afternoon tea is a great way to do it.  40 people,  including 3 very special guests: Alex, Alison and Jane, joined us for open sandwiches on home-made bread, a range of little cakes all handmade by our chefs, and bite size scones and sweet and savoury muffins. Our three special guests had all sent us stories and thoughts about Special afternoon teas – you can read their stories on our Afternoon Tea page.

A good time was had by everyone and we  look forward to many more tea parties at The Bay.

Happy New Year to all our friends

The festive season is over and we’re looking forward to a fabulous 2012. We’ve taken down the decorations and we’ve shut up shop for just a week or two. It’s part of our commitment to keep the Bay Restaurant and the Hotel Penzance as fresh and and welcoming as we can, and we will be busy decorating and spring-cleaning after a busy Christmas and New Year.

We will be re-opening on the 16th January and we look forward to seeing friends old and new in the very near future

Montol – Winter Solstice – in Penzance

The lights go on in Mousehole

Christmas lights are on all over West Cornwall and tonight the famouse Mousehole lights will be switched on at 7:30, and Mounts bay is full of Christmas Sparkle from Marazion to Newlyn.  http://www.intocornwall.com/special/clights.asp

The Christmas Decorations are up.

We had a busy weekend at The Bay getting glammed up for Christmas. The Christmas parties start this week and we’re looking forward to seeing all our guests.    With a brilliant menu from Ben, our head chef, champagne and (more…)

Congratulations to Hotel Penzance

The Bay Restaurant is part of the Hotel Penzance and we are very proud that the hotel won a Silver award at the Cornwall Tourism awards this week. (see press release below)

Here at The Bay we like to think we contributed.  The judges ate in the restaurant when they visited and we did everything we could to make sure they had a fantastic meal.  We wouldn’t want them to think they were too special though – we  treat all our guests as if they were  judges and we hope they will award us by visiting again and again
